Last week I discussed having a morning routine to get your day off to a good start but it is also important to end it right as well. Today we will be going over night time routines.
Step 1- Choose a time. How much time do you want to spend unwinding at the end of the day? Mine is immediately after supper (usually around 6pm).
Step 2– What do you enjoy doing at home? Make sure you do at least 2 things for yourself during your evening routine (I catch up on at least 1 TV show & read a minimum of 5 chapters of whatever book I am reading)
Step 3– Make tidiness a priority. Set aside at least 10 minutes for a quick tidy. Load the dishwasher, put everything back in it’s place (remember: a place for everything and everything in it’s place), wipe down the counters/tables etc.
Step 4– What helps you relax? Coloring, breathing exercises, yoga, baths etc. What is your relaxation technique? For me it’s bubble baths
Step 5– Prepare for tomorrow.Do a brain dump, pack your bag, choose your outfit/makeup/accessories/shoes, set your alarm.
Step 6– Choose a bed time. Choose a time and stick to it as often as you can, every night if possible.
My evening routine:
1800- Tidy up after supper (fill & run dishwasher, wipe counter & tables, pick up anything laying around the house, change litter)
1815- Blog & Social Media
1915- Take bath & get in PJs
1945- Watch TV
2200- Journal
2215- Next day prep
2300- Read
2330- Go to sleep
Do you have an evening routine? what is included in it?
I’m working really hard right now at putting routines into place. It’s not easy when I am so busy with work, but it will pay off in the long run once everything is organized.

I’m in the process of creating something that will work for me! It’s definitely important because I have many things to do when I get home from work!

yes yes yes. I am not sure if children are involved but you learn as a mom that a routine is the life saver. If it were not for our evening routine it would be pure chaos!

Yes! 2017 needs more routine, since my 2016 felt all over the place. I used to be better about setting aside 10 minutes at the end of the day to tackle some clutter (like shoes or mail) and I think I’ll start that up again. Thanks for reminding me!

You know what’s funny? I have a routine for my kids…. and none for myself. I’ll bet that would help me fall asleep faster, too.

It does for me, in university I had horrible insomnia & I noticed once I got my routine in place sleep came a lot easier because I was taking a couple hours to just unwind

My son has to Ben put in a routine or his whole day will be off. This has made me become more into a routine everyday.

I actually don’t have an evening routine. I homeschool my youngest daughter (11), and so out evenings are usually dinner, tv, read, write, drawing, playing board games, etc. It’s different everynight but dinner. lol

Creating an evening routine is SUPER important… I feel really lost and a little out of control without one. Reading is always my last part of the night!

Mine too . I won’t even get up to turn the light off , my husband stays up late because he works nights so if he’s home I yell for him to come turn it off for me

One of the things that I want to do is create an evening routine, unfortunately my life is crazy and changes a lot (happens when you hav kids) that it all goes out of the window!

Since having children, my evening routine looks very different. We have a set routine of no screen time after 6 p.m. which helps all of us settle.

that is a great idea my father is one of those people who can’t sleep without a TV on and because of that it took me a long time to kick the habit too. I do watch right before bed but not while I sleep anymore and I feel so much more rested. Good that your kids are used to no screen time.

I actually need to make my own evening routine too! My evenings are always a jumbled mess and then I feel like I just added so much more stuff to do the next day. This would totally help me get my blogging done too!

Well my evening routine is somewhat shocking because I spend about 30 minutes on taking shower and my skincare routine. I’m watching YouTube videos or audiobooks by doing so. And I can’t stop checking my social media until I’m asleep! I think I really need to reconsider my routine in 2017!!

the 30 minute shower & skincare isn’t too bad my hygiene routine takes about 30-45 minutes but the continuous checking of social media before bed can interfere with sleep. My husband is guilty of that one as well
